Francis Lauer Youth Services

The Aftercare Program was designed as a continuation of the Alliance Day Treatment Program and various other programs around the state. It operates in conjunction with Juvenile Court Services and the Department of Human Services. Aftercare allows probation officers and social workers to monitor the progress and behaviors of clients after being discharged from treatment. Aftercare is appropriate for males and females who have successfully completed a treatment program in the last three months. Aftercare is an individually based treatment and specializes to the specific needs of the client.

Aftercare is a support system for the child who is transitioning back into their community. The client attends weekly individual sessions with the counselor. These sessions can take place at school, home, or at Francis Lauer Youth Services. This allows clients to discuss issues that may have come about at home, school or in the community over the week. The counselor assists the client in exploring job opportunities and helps them look for jobs and other various activities to occupy free time. Clients receive periodic urinalysis tests during sessions to monitor their drug use.

Depending upon the number of clients involved in aftercare; there may be a weekly group the clients are asked to attend. This is not ongoing but may occur whenever there is enough clientele to participate. Group is based on the clients sharing information and support with one another. It also allows the clients to participate in positive activities with one another.

The Aftercare Program is flexible and can work in whatever capacity is needed. A client who is making progress toward their goals can participate for as short as one month or as long as the probation officer/social worker feels necessary.
