Child Welfare Emergency Services (CWES)
Our crisis response unit will work with providers (JCS, DHS, Law Enforcement, Schools) and families to work through a crisis without requiring out-of-home placement. We will initiate these services promptly after referral and could include:

- Risk/Safety Assessment (over the telephone, in-person or on unit)
- Meeting with families in their home or at our location during a crisis
- Helping families and children de-escalate/calm down during stressful situations
- Developing a safety plan
- Looking for alternatives to ES Shelter placement
- Assisting with referrals and resources
- Coordination with other providers and agencies
- Discharge planning (if the youth is admitted to the ES Shelter)
- Follow-up with families to ensure continued success

Child Welfare Emergency Shelter
Our Child Welfare Emergency Shelter provides emergency, short-term care for youth needing placement outside the home as well as respite care. It is licensed by the Iowa Department of Human Services. The Emergency Services Shelter is a safe setting where youth may be placed for a number of reasons:

- Situations were the youth's health or safety may be compromised
- Delinquent behaviors
- Runaway behaviors
- Truancy
- Homelessness
- Complications with mental health issues
- Difficulties at home or school
- Struggling with a variety of different circumstances
